Biography

Oliver Mwakio alias cardiac poet, is an outgoing spoken word artist seeking to change and impact the world one word at a time. He is a ball of positive energy and is pleasant to be around. He is in his final year in the University of Nairobi pursuing a bachelor of arts in literature and performing Arts. He is a recording and performing artist. Cardiac is a co host t Koo store weekly how which majors mostly with spoken word Swahili mashairi. He is an all round artist as he can also act, MC at events, write scripts, direct plays, do voice overs, and us a musician t Wadau East. He is a freelance model. He is currently mentoring other poets as he continues to touch on issues hands cannot in the society. He aims to touch lives without pointing any fingers.

AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

I have been featured multiple times on KTN life and style, citizen 10/10, the turn up Maisha magic, Y254, KUTV, Destiny TV and once on signs TV. I have been hosted on Baraka FM and Radio Mtaani. I have a strong online presence as I manage all my social media handles. I currently have 3500 you tube subscribers. In 2017 I won the Unga wa dola art for peace competition, which saw one of my spoken word pieces being voted best in the county by a panel comprising of Judge Ian Mbugua and Erick Omondi. In 2018, I was ranked 6th in the East Africa poetic hour battle which was held in kisumu and featured poets across East Africa. Within the same year, I won the international Mask awards that saw my video emerge best among 2000 submitted entries from Kenya, Uganda, Mauritius, Congo and Tanzania. In the fall of 2018, my video "okoa University" was voted as the video of the year in the Kenyan Coast Music Awards. Awards in which I was Nominated in three categories ; male artist of the year, Most promising artist of the year and video of the year. On 23rd Nov 2018 I took part in an artivism campaign and won an award from the United Nations Women foundation. In 2019 I emerged best in poetry in the lenga Ugaidi na talanta competition, with my piece on the effects of violent extremism. The same video won in the Global Migration film festival the same year. In 2020 my piece on mental health was voted best in Mombasa in a competition organized by the social good center. I was privileged to be selected to be one of the only two judges from Kenya in the online International Erupt awards. My spoken word piece on Gender based violence #Vunja kimya was voted best in the Mtaa challenge competition. In the fall of 2021 I won a Nigerian open mic competition and my piece saka wera emerged best in the lenga ugaidi na talanta competition in the poetry category. I won a washing machinein the recently concluded downy competition. I have recently released an E.P called Local Man featuring 14 incredible artists which is currently available on all digital streaming platforms.

MY GOAL

I write until my hands hurt and my heart doesn't. My writing process can be related to an impulse, I see, I feel and react by writing. Peoples feedback fuel my self drive. I touch on issues hands cannot as I constantly make way for word keeping my city on the map.
